To witness the fruits of a life-long yoga practice, spend a little time in the presence of David Swenson. He began practicing yoga 1969 at the age of 13, and the decades of dedicated practice show up in David as unflappable good humor, a teaching style that makes a challenging practice accessible to everyone, wisdom, generosity and grace–in addition to his extraordinary mastery of any asana.
David’s introduction to Ashtanga came in 1973 when he met David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff in Encinitas, California. In 1975, when they brought K. Pattabhi Jois to the U.S. for the first time, David initiated studies directly with Guruji. David traveled to Mysore in 1977 and in his studies there with K. Pattabhi Jois, he learned the full Ashtanga system as it was originally taught.
David Swenson is recognized today as one of the world’s foremost practitioners and instructors of Ashtanga Yoga.
