There is a great deal of variety in Hatha classes. Classes at all levels start with warm-ups and end with deep relaxation, but the body of Hatha classes varies. Some classes move rapidly from pose to pose, others move slowly through gentle joint manipulations. Some incorporate poses from all pose types in a single class; some warm up the body and then focus each class on a specific way of moving the body (back bending for example). Some classes will include partner work. Poses are often repeated several times with new details about alignment or sense awareness introduced with each repetition. Most classes are based on a simple philosophical theme.
At the beginning level the Hatha classes are generally slower than Ashtanga classes, with more focus on relaxation and alignment. At the advanced level, they are equally challenging.
Our Hatha yoga classes have evolved from classical poses and practices that are at least 1000 years old. To this ancient practice we have added information about anatomy, physiology and optimal body alignment.
