In a happy accident in 2001, Correna mistakenly took a star studded primary series Ashtanga class while on vacation in California. Although she was not yet practicing at the same level as the other students in the class, she immediately responded to how challenging and humbling the Ashtanga practice is. It was then that she began her own journey with Ashtanga. Within her practice she has found a healthy way to manage stress, realize her potential for happiness and live life more in the moment. Through focusing on her practice, Correna has learned how to stop creating obstacles to her personal growth and lead a richer life .
After years of building her practice slowly and teaching her friends and family for fun, Correna decided to get her 200-hour yoga certification in Ashtanga. After getting pregnant in 2009, Correna took the prenatal yoga course. She loved how it provided her a sense of community with the other students and a set of skills to navigate life with her ever-changing body.
As a teacher of both Ashtanga and prenatal yoga, Correna hopes to help students in both courses develop body awareness and a consciousness of habits and emotions, like fear and excitement, that cause them tightness and discomfort, in order to overcome those obstacles. As a teacher, Correna enjoys enabling others to experience what yoga can reveal to them, whether it be a new physical practice, a change of perspective, or a change of life. Correna believes that "if you can fully engage on the mat and breathe it will start showing up in surprising ways in other parts of your life."
Outside the studio, Correna relishes craft projects like quilting and embroidery, letting loose at family dance parties, watching her son Arlo grow every day and cooking and talking with friends and family. Correna is grateful to all the teachers at Yoga on High who have taught, guided and supported her over the years and continue to do so. She feels so lucky to be apart of this wonderful community.
