Katherine Yannucci

Kathy, also known as KATICA, began her yoga journey in the fall of 2000 at the Dharma Yoga Center in New York City after being diagnosed with hyperthyroid.  While working full-time as a Fashion Designer, she started practicing yoga twice a week in order to counteract the symptoms of her thyroid condition.

In January 2004, Kathy’s love for yoga led her to enroll in the 260-hour Teacher Training Certification Course in Miami, Florida, with Rossella Rossi.  Kathy taught at local studios and spas in Miami, while also implementing “Yoga for Lunch” into the corporate world.  In addition, she taught private clients at their homes.  In November 2005, Kathy moved to Columbus, Ohio.  The first thing she did upon arriving was to take a tour of the city to find all the local yoga studios.  She has been teaching at McConnell Heart Health Center since 2006 and has also taught at local studios, country clubs, and her home studio.  She is experienced in Vinyasa, Yin Yoga, Yin-Yang Yoga, and Kids Yoga.  Kathy has trained with Sarah Powers, Gary Kraftsow, Rodney Yee, Paul Grilley, Cyndi Lee, and many others.  Her fluid yoga style is sometimes referred to as a “dance”, as she links one pose to the next with each breath.

Personal Yoga Philosophy:

For Kathy, yoga is more than a physical practice.  It is a lifestyle, a way of life.  It starts on your mat, and it weaves itself into every part of your life on a spiritual, emotional, mental, and social level.  Kathy continues to deepen her spiritual practice by incorporating asana, daily meditation and mantras into her life.  She also practices “ahimsa” (non-violence) through a vegan diet and compassion towards all human and animal beings.  Kathy’s inspiration is her students.  “The most wonderful experience about teaching yoga is the people you meet and the ability to share the gift of yoga with them.  It is rewarding to see the progress of students in their practice.  Yoga creates a union whereby the students and the instructor learn from one another.”

Life:

Kathy graduated from Syracuse University and has a degree in Fashion Design.  She lives in Worthington with her husband, Doug, their children Andrés and Anastasia, and their two yellow labs, Zen and Rocco.  She loves to travel, eat delicious and healthy foods, try different styles of alternative therapies, dance, meet new people, and of course, practice and teach yoga.  Kathy is fluent in Spanish, as her parents were born and raised in Cali, Colombia.  She speaks to her children in Spanish to provide them an opportunity to be bi-lingual, and is also raising her children on a vegan diet to teach them compassion towards all animal beings.  In 2006, Kathy also combined her fashion design background with her yoga lifestyle, in order to start her own business.  She designs yoga apparel under the brand name KATICA, which is her Spanish nickname meaning “little Kathy.”  The company mission is to “Design a Lifestyle that Inspires Change.”

Kathy is currently enrolled in the 500-hour RYT Teacher Training at Yoga on High.
