Yoga and Anxiety: Bring More Ease to Your Life

While anxiety is a normal human reaction to everyday stresses, in excess it can limit our ability to respond effectively to events in our lives. Anxiety disorders are on the rise with some data showing over 35 % of people will experience an anxiety disorder in their life. Symptoms of anxiety include:

  • Restlessness or feeling wound-up or on edge
  • Being easily fatigued
  • Difficulty concentrating or periods when the mind goes blank
  • Irritability
  • Muscle tension
  • Difficulty controlling worry and/or an over-active mind
  • Sleep problems (difficulty falling or staying asleep or restlessness, unsatisfying sleep)
  • Panic attacks
  • Social anxiety

The good news is that research shows that yoga practices including asana, yogic breathing practices and meditation can help alleviate the symptoms of anxiety and leave students feeling more grounded, peaceful and calm. But which yoga practices for which symptoms for which person? These questions and some possible answers will be the focus of this weekend on Yoga for Anxiety. We will teach and explore a variety of practices and help you determine which ones are useful for you or your students. This workshop is appropriate for those who experience anxiety as well as teachers who would like to help their students.
