One of the reasons we love inviting Roger Cole to Yoga on High is that he blends deep anatomic and physiological information with clarity of language as he teaches asana. In this workshop you will not just sit as you learn from a master, you’ll be practicing what he is teaching and experiencing how he cues each pose. And while much of the information is based on teaching inversions, you will see that a healthy practice of inversions includes poses from all pose groups to prepare the body for inversions as well as recover after. Marcia has studied extensively with Roger and he has especially influenced her teaching of restorative yoga and inversions.
Restorative Inversions: Physiology and Practice
Friday, July 13 from 6:30p to 9:00p
BKS Iyengar developed ingenious ways to support the body in inverted yoga postures to trigger multiple relaxation reflexes, producing extraordinary states of physical rest and mental peace. Learn the physiology that makes restorative inversions so effective, then put it to use in a long, deep practice.
Preparation for Inversions: Asana, Anatomy, Physiology and Mind
Saturday, July 14 from 9:30a to 12:30p
Experience a whole-body yoga practice designed to prepare you physically and mentally for strong, balanced, satisfying inversions. Includes an introduction to shoulder and neck anatomy and inversions physiology. Practice of inverted poses will be in the afternoon class.
How to Practice and Teach Inversions
Saturday, July 14 from 2:00 to 5:00p
Dramatically improve your practice and teaching of inversions by consciously optimizing the placement of the hands, wrists, shoulders, neck and head, then working your way up the body to align the whole pose. The class will cover handstand, headstand, shoulderstand and alternatives to accommodate students who have less experience or special needs.
Inversions: Deeper Anatomy, Practice and Teaching
Sunday, July 15 from 9:00a to 1:00p
Iyengar taught that alignment brings equanimity. Experience this profound truth directly by learning how precise, inverted balance on a strong, well-constructed base opens your heart and quiets your mind. The class includes whole-body preparation, deeper exploration of neck and shoulder anatomy, how to feel and teach precise alignment, and practice of inversions and variations, including headstand and shoulder stand. Alternative asanas will be provided for those who need or prefer them.
