Studies show that over 80% of Americans will suffer significant back pain in their lives. And people with back pain say yoga helps them more than any other single modality including surgery and medical care. This workshop will help yoga teachers understand principles and techniques of yoga therapy that help your students with back pain. You’ll deepen your understanding of common back ailments such as sciatica, degenerative disc disease and sacro-iliac pain and learn techniques and yoga sequences to help your students become pain free. You’ll learn principles of natural movement that are useful no matter what the diagnosis as well as how to avoid poses (or ways of doing poses) that may contribute to back pain. You’ll learn to help your students balance length, strength and flexibility and to open or strengthen other parts of the body which may be affecting the back. Also included in this weekend is information about the role of relaxation, meditation and pranayama and how to train your students to know what is best for themselves. Mary Sinclair, RYT-500 and Certified Balance™ Instructor, will partner with Marcia for part of the weekend bringing her expertise in hands-on adjustments and Balance™ training.
